Prevention and Treatment of Bad Breath in Throat

Bad breath is one of the most common but most of the time, undetected problems in the society.  Bad breath, as the words clearly show, is the unlikable smell, which is most likely smelled by other people instead of the person having the bad breath himself.  It is important that we know how to determine if we have this disorder and know how to prevent or treat it before it can greatly affect our social life.  This disorder is also known in a lot of names such as halitosis, breath odor, mouth odor, oral malodor, foul breath, fetor oris, and fetor ex ore.

Bad breath has several causes, which may come from the mouth, tongue, gum diseases, nose, tonsils, stomach and systematic diseases. This may also be caused by the food we intake, dental problems, dry mouth, sinus infections, smoking, and severe dieting.

Usually bad breath in mouth, nose and throat conditions are associated with sinus infections.  Bad breath in throat is caused by anaerobic bacteria that reproduce fast.  These bacteria, which live deep within the surface of the tongue, can also live in the other parts of the mouth, as well as in the esophagus.  The complicated fact about bad breath in throat is that it is not easy to deal with unlike with the other causes of bad breath.  This area is not within reach of the usual areas that we brush or floss.

There are different ways to deal and prevent bad breath in throat:

-    Have a proper oral hygiene.  Brush teeth at least twice a day or every after taking a meal.  This will at least prevent the formation of bacteria or minimize their reproduction by removing food debris, which serve as the food of the bacteria.
-    Try to develop a routine of flossing daily and scraping your tongue by using a tongue scraper.  This will aid in cleaning your teeth and tongue thus preventing the formation of bacteria, in addition, this also helps in improving the health of your gums and teeth.
-    Avoid using oxygenating toothpaste, which contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, because this dries the mouth.  Saliva also helps in eradicating or minimizing the formation of bacteria since this is every person’s natural mouthwash.
-    Drinking lots of water will help as well in washing your mouth and preventing it from drying.
-    Bad breath from the throat can also be caused by smoking, so avoiding or quitting this habit could help a lot as well in preventing or treating bad breath.
-    To treat bad breath in throat, swallowing 1-2 capfuls of the solution of AktiveOXigen and allowing it to remain in contact with the back of your throat for as long as possible will help eliminate the anaearobic bacteria present in the throat.  This can be swallowed either in the morning or the evening, or in any time of the day you prefer.

For other causes of bad breath, it is preferable that a visit to the dentist be done regularly.  Having a fresh breath is a necessity, especially if we are socializing.  This is not only for our own benefit but also for the people we socialize with.

Bad Breath from Stomach

Halitosis, or bad breath as it is more popularly known, is an oral health condition, which is characterized by unpleasant breath.

Bad breath has different sources and different causes.  It may come from the mouth, throat or stomach and may be caused by poor oral hygiene, food taken, medical conditions such as infections, gum disease, tooth decay, diabetes, kidney failure, or liver malfunction, sinus problems, xerostomia, and smoking.  There are also some rare instances when bad breath from stomach happens.

The usual and easy way to eliminate bad breath is to have a proper oral hygiene and to stay away from foods and habits, which can lead or worsen this dental condition. For instance, since bad breath is oftentimes caused by bacteria, eradicating these should be enough to treat the problem.  Regular brushing both the teeth and tongue, and flossing should be a part of the daily routine. This should at least be done every after meal, or if it is not possible, rinsing the mouth may be enough to wash away the food left in the mouth, which can cause the formation of bacteria.  For food that causes bad breath, staying away from food such as garlic could help in improving the situation.  Chewing raw apple, carrots, or celery can help in preventing the build-up of plaque because these food help in increasing saliva production.  As for habits that may cause bad breath, alcohol and tobacco are the most popular causes of bad breath associated with vices.  Staying away from these does not only improve breath, but also the over-all health of the person.  If proper oral hygiene has been strictly followed, as well as food and habit monitoring, and yet bad breath still occurs, there might be other cause of this.

Bad breath from stomach is not a common condition; this is the reason why few things or information about this is known.  Before an ailment can be addressed or treated accordingly, a study about the ailment itself has to be made.  Bad breath from the stomach is usually associated with digestive disorders.  This may include obstructed bowel, acid reflux disease, Zenker’s diverticulum, and just plain indigestion.  Bowel obstruction happens when a section of either the small or large intestine has been totally or partially blocked, preventing the stool to get through it; this condition usually results to breath smelling like feces.  Acid reflux disease is oftentimes associated with bad breath, but this depends on whether the person is thin or obese, his social history (whether he drinks or smokes), and other medical concerns.  Zenker’s diverticulum is a condition characterized by a hypopharyngeal diverticulum and one of its listed symptoms is bad breath.

As presented, bad breath from stomach may be caused by more complex health conditions.  Its presence may be a symptom of another disorder, which has to be addressed with the appropriate medical attention.  Only if this particular cause of bad breath is treated can the presence of bad breath be eliminated too.

Bad breath is not just a simple concern especially if its cause is not just having poor dental hygiene or the food taken.  If bad breath occurs, it is important to seek medical help in order to detect as early as possible probable more serious medical disorders.
